Hear Ye, Hear Ye!
We’ve been meaning to organize and write a blog for years. Now we’re finally making it happen. Before we get into the weekly posts about our events, the taproom and crew, you know we have to take you back to the roots of Hutton & Smith Brewing Co. Chattanooga Tennessee.
THE BEGINNING
In 2015 we officially got our license to brew! After a year of hard work with LOTS of help from friends and family we opened our taproom location on MLK. It took a community of folks to help us, we were so grateful to have the support and love from friends and family while we were getting things up and running.
AWARDS
Since the start of brewing, we’re honored to have been recognized at brewing competitions on the local, national and international levels, including winning a total of 7 awards at the prestigious GABF and World Beer Cup competitions!
GROWING THE TEAM
In 2015 we started with just two employees, Mel and Joel, and quickly doubled our staff to include Jonathan and Priscilla. We operated all aspects of the brewery/taproom with just the four of us, from production, to sanitation, to deliveries, to sales, to working bar shifts. We then started to grow our staff as the brewery grew to include 19 valued staff members. It has been great getting the chance to work with so many friendly and talented people, and we feel lucky to have them.
PRODUCTION GROWTH
We were at brewing capacity within 6 months of opening the taproom and 7 bbl brewhouse location in downtown Chattanooga, and immediately began plans to expand. In December of 2017 we had completed construction of the 30 bbl brewhouse on Riverside Dr.
FOOTPRINT
Food City in Chattanooga to was the first grocery store chain carry our beer! Since 2015 we have expanded our distribution footprint to include the State of Tennessee, the State of Alabama and North Georgia including retail, chain, and grocery distribution.
FUTURE
The future of craft brewing is evolving and changing on a daily basis, H&S continues to change with it. Follow the Tales of Hutton & Smith as we’ll continue posting what we’re up to in this blog!
